A booby fly is a staple in any stillwater fly box. It is capable of holding up a rig in the water column for a washing line rig or at depth on a sinking line. Instead of flies dropping through the column on the pause, they’ll hover and rise up. I rely on this one in competition fishing as my main confidence booby fly. My version of this booby bugger uses polar chenille with UV properties, hen saddle feathers for added shimmies, and marabou that excels on pull pause type retrieves. Try this fly out paired with my chironomid pattern and balanced leech and you have a capable rig that’ll catch fish in any stillwater.
